My wife and I visited Jagannatha Puri in early January and would like to inform the devotees of a nice guesthouse situated near the beach and close to the Birla guesthouse. It is called the Shanti guesthouse and the rooms were clean, moderately priced, and quiet. It was in stark contrast to the hotel where we first stayed, which was noisy and full of parties and the drinking of alcohol.

There is also a fully vegetarian on-site kitchen being run by the son of the cook at the Birla guesthouse and we found the food to be nicely prepared, tasty, and reasonably priced. It is also a short walk from the Tota-Gopinatha temple, the ISKCON temple and Haridasa Thakura's samadhi.

It is situated just behind the Raja Hotel which is well known by the ricksha wallas. The proprietors also purchased and delivered us Jagannatha prasada at what we found to be reasonable prices and refused any donation for fetching the prasada.

Hare Krsna,

Carana dasa
