I've long had the feeling that Narayana Maharaja is leading devotees away from Srila Prabhupada's precious instructions by making nebulous promises of higher rasas. Nothing so has better confirmed my uneasiness about Narayana Maharaja's teachings as Urmila Prabhu's excellent compilation entitled "Understanding Narayana Maharaja," which so clearly reveals the inconsistencies, contradictions, and pretensions of his presentation.

If someone is seeking to be initiated by a competent, realized, and honest spiritual master, he or she would derive far greater benefit from approaching Urmila Prabhu than from being swayed by nebulous promises of realizing higher rasas coming from Narayana Maharaja. She is the true understander of both Srila Prabhupada and Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati in this matter. This is proven by direct instructions from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta himself:

"The pure spiritual master never puts thorn-like deterrents on the path of one's execution of practical devotional service (sadhana).

"The followers of Srila Rupa Goswami are never neglectful in assessing anyone's spiritual qualifications. The followers of Srila Rupa Goswami never instruct a servant who is engrossed in material impediments about the science of intimate devotional mellows."

-- Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati "Prakrta Rasa Shata Dushini" ["A Hundred Warnings against Mundane Mellows"]

Thanks for your diligent soul-saving work in helping the rest of us understand, Urmila Prabhu.

Your servant,

Hare Krsna dasi
