Sudama’s Critique:
Why I Posted It

I have received articles and private e-mails asking why I would post something like Sudama’s critique of Georgina’s spelling ("RVC: Watch Your Spelling!" May 23, 2002). Actually, my first thought was to reject the article, as it is simply a criticism based on gender, but then I had a second thought: If one person is saying this, surely many others are thinking it.

So I thought I should inform Chakra’s readers that the spelling in Georgina’s article was no worse than that in most of the articles sent in by men and that for some reason or other, Georgina’s article just happened to get past me. True, Georgina should have been more careful, but so should everyone else.

I could have quietly changed Georgina’s article, as some people suggested, but the damage had already been done. I was hoping to defend Georgina, but it backfired.

Well, as Srila Prabhupada says, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I offer my apologies to anyone who was offended by Sudama’s article, and especially to Georgina. I hope the posting did not cause her any pain.
