The Goal is to be Chaste to the Lord
By Sambhavi dasi

In a recent article on CHAKRA, Jayasri Devi wrote about the wifely duties of a Krishna conscious woman. I would like to point out, with folded hands and holding a straw in my mouth, something that she overlooked.

When Srila Prabhupada relates the story from Markandeya Purana about the woman who served a prostitute and stopped the sun, his main emphasis is not a woman's duty to be chaste and obedient to her husband. The main point and a lesson that we learn from this historical narration is that a devotee should be similarly chaste to the Lord. "This example is given herein to emphasize that a devotee should engage himself exclusively for the satisfaction of Krishna, without personal motives. That will make his life successful. " (CC Antya 20. 57 purport)

I am not trying to disturb Jayasri Prabhu's quest to raise awareness of feminine obligations. My aim is simply to remind everyone about the actual conclusion and goal of the scriptures. "By all the Vedas I am to be known,” declares Krishna. We do not wish to gain mystical powers to stop the sun.

Our sole aim as eternal spirit souls is to surrender to Krishna.

Your servant,
Sambhavi dasi
