Karuna with No Mercy?
(In Reply to Karuna)
by Nikhilananda Dasa

I strongly disagree with the contents of Karuna's article. There is a racist touch to his conclusions which is not characteristic of the followers of Srila Prabhupada and which does not conform to the conclusions of Srila Prabhupada's teachings. The name "Karuna" usually means "mercy" or "compassion." There is however a lack of mercy and instead a cruel arrogance visible in his article which gives me cold shudders when I think of it.

Especially the choice of four different types of bodies, which he offers in the end is really not a result of intelligence when used to understand spiritual philosophy. It is an attempt to arrogantly hurt and insult those who have a different body. Does Karuna really think himself to be superior, just because he has a "white male body"? Or that his karma is a better one because of that? And what is a typically white male? Is it Hitler? Or is it Charles Manson? Or the one who blew up two hundred people in Oklahoma? Or the white drunkard who sleeps on the street? Is that good karma?

If I were to choose between the four choices which Karuna offers, I would choose the body of either Madonna or Whitney Houston or Kate Bush, who have much better karma than Karuna can ever think of, to obtain for himself, for the next twenty lifetimes. And then I would donate all the hundreds of millions of dollars for preaching Krishna consciousness all over the world and record a nice album that glorifies Krishna, just like the famous black female devotee Turiya Sangitananda has done. Or I would pray to receive a brain that would provide me with such intelligence like the famous devotees Yamuna DD Prabhu and Malati DD Prabhu have—who managed to actually please Srila Prabhupada with their intelligent preaching and use of good karma—something I am light years away from.
