Painful Blasphemy
Nikhilananda Dasa replies to Radha Vallabha DD

Usually, I would not even reply to a challenging letter like that of Radhavallabha Devi Dasi, which contains the empty rhetoric and polemics that I expected from people who don’t mind discussions containing insults to Srila Prabhupada. All of her questions have already been answered in my previous article, quite unmistakingly. I will therefore just briefly reply and then say good-bye:

1. Why did I reply at all if I don’t want to be drawn into a debate?

As mentioned in my article, which was written, as far as I remember, in normal Western alphabetical letters, the only reason I submitted my opinion was to -distance myself- from the present policies of Chakra and the blasphemous contents of Niscala’s letter. I only referred to that point. I did not refer to all the other dozens of things that she wrote abou, and I don’t think that I have any such obligation. Insult to Srila Prabhupada and his faithful followers makes the rest of any article absolutely uninteresting to me. I am not the only one who thinks like that. I very much appreciate the article by Murlidhara Prabhu who finds Niscala’s article similarly insulting. And there are many others.

I happen to be one of the first five devotees who supported Chakra in the beginning and encouraged its creation, although I have never been a member of the editorial team and was never a decision maker for Chakra. Later, I recommended reading the Chakra web page in various conferences. As I already mentioned in my previous article, this is the reason, why I felt duty-bound now, to distance myself.

I wrote an article that answered Niscala’s points in the mentioned context, one by one, on the basis of guru and shastra. I also commented on her few references to shastra and explained why I felt that they had been grossly misinterpreted, in an offensive way. All this was explained in my previous article "Solid Faith in Srila Prabhupada."

Maharani DD told us that she found 99 percent of my article to be convincing and agreeable. Others wrote me letters of appreciation. The length of my article is not even one tenth of all those which Niscala wrote. It was sufficient for me to present my points in a non-superficial manner. If that seems contradictory to Radha Vallabha Dasi, I cannot help her.

2. Regarding the question of which statements of Nisacala I found to be insulting and disrespectful of Srila Prabhupada, this question has already been answered, in the very beginning of my article, unmistakably. There are at least three different types of insults that I pointed out, some of them by direct quote.

3. I made the statement in my article that "Niscala presented her doubts in a very insulting manner," which referred to the insult to Srila Prabhupada in Niscala’s articles. To this accusation Vallabha Dasi has now commented: "... even if she did, this is not the issue..." For me it is. If insult to Srila Prabhupada is not an issue for readers of this web page, I am definitely in the wrong place here. For me, this has been the only issue. I have no opinion on all the other things. The last thing that ever concerned me was the size or weight of anyone’s brain in this world.

God knows that I have really more important problems in life to take care of. Others may be able to spend weeks on the internet and split hairs; I won’t. What I find remarkable is that some people spend weeks of their time trying to defend their own egos or what they imagine about it. But when Srila Prabhupada, our founder acarya, to whom we owe everything, is blasphemed, they take it as something unimportant. As shastra says, there is a penance for everything, except for ungratefulness. Just remember the story of King Nahusha in the Mahabharata and remember his destination. And remember how even the great sages who are otherwise most compassionate, curse any offender of such saints as Srila Prabhupada, Narada Muni, or Agastya Muni, the very mentioning of whose names purifies the whole universe!

4. It makes me feel shocked that -both- Niscala’s and Radha Vallabha’s articles, which obviously -both- accept blasphemy of Srila Prabhupada as something normal, can even be published here. Not a good sign of the present state of our movement. A few months ago I still placed great hopes in this web page. Now it seems like it is just another disappointment. I am not sure if the authors realize that for every tear drop which devotees have shed around the world in the last few weeks because of this horrible abuse of Srila Prabhupada’s name, who is more dear to us than our very lives, they will have to pay the price one day. Om ksraum Narasimhaya namah.

5. RDV’s question why I don’t want to enter a continuing debate was likewise - already answered- in my previous article, unmistakably: I don’t have the time. Nor do I see that it will lead anywhere. Radha Vallabha DD’s comment on my letter is the best proof of it. In a way, she answered the question herself. She ignores virtually every word I wrote before and asks all the questions I have already answered, for the second time. There is no reason to waste more time on this. Those who have made criticism of Srila Prabhupada their personal dogma in life will never give in to reason, no matter how many sound arguments and quotes are presented to them. And thus they will remain truly antiquated forever.

Good-bye everyone. For me, this is the end of the discussion.
