Srila Prabhupada on
Chanting the Holy Name

from Bhaktavatsala dasa (NZ)

Path of Perfection: Chapter Ten: "The Path of Perfection"

"My Lord, O Supreme Personality of Godhead, in Your holy name there is all good fortune for the living entity, and therefore You have many names, such as Krsna and Govinda, by which You expand Yourself. You have invested all Your potencies in those names, and there are no hard-and-fast rules for remembering them. My dear Lord, although You bestow such mercy upon the fallen, conditioned souls by liberally teaching Your holy names, I am so unfortunate that I commit offenses while chanting the holy name, and therefore I do not achieve attachment for chanting."

Pilgrim's Diary,
January 24-25, 2002

by Vipramukhya Swami

January 24, 2002 - New Castle, New South Wales, Australia.

I've created a website where all of these Pilgrim's Diary stories can be found: http://www.chantandbehappy.com/diary

There's an ISKCON house in here in Newcastle, NSW, which we stopped by to see. It's undergoing major renovation. Our main purpose in coming, however, was to do Harinam in downtown.

So after stopping by the local Hare Krishna Vegetarian Cafe, which seemed to be fairly busy, we set out to go up and down the main outdoor mall. Newcastle is a shipping down. Reminds me of New Westminster in the Vancouver, Canada, area. Lots of young people. It was a great Harinam.

Clickers Ki Jaya!
by Vedika dd

I think clickers are wonderful. If I didn’t use one, I would never get my japa done. My husband even set up special clickers for us to use when we play games on our PS2 (Sony Play Station) so we can play video games and click with our feet. I use it when I cook, drive, and even crochet! Now I can do anything requiring the use of both hands and still get my rounds done.

Yours in Krishna’s service,
Vedika dd

Travels of a Narasimha Bhakta
by Dhruva das

To all the assembled devotees and well-wishers,

Please accept my most humble obeisances and Glories to Srila Prabhupada and Narasimha Deva.

I want to thank all of you who have been offering prayers on my behalf for the last few days, and I would also like to apologize if I may have, unintentionally, caused grief in the minds of my good parents. If I may, let me explain.

Organic Is Best
from Akunthita

I’m responding to a short posting by Ravinder Sihra, titled "Organic Is Best." Would anyone know where to get organic split mung dahl? We use a lot of this in our temples, but so far I was unable to find an organic source for it. Whole mung is available easily, but I cannot find the split variety.

Has anyone any idea?

Thank you and Hare Krishna!

New to the World of Chakra
by Bhakta Don Muntean

In 1986 I received a Macmillan Bhagavad Gita from my farmer stepfather. It had been sold to his father by a devotee in the '70s. His father was into the mystical (my stepfather said). His dad had passed away before he met my mother and all his books were suddenly mine for the taking when they married in 1986— books by Lobsang Rampa and other esoteric authors. Buried in all these was this Bhagavad Gita As It Is and all its cool pictures. I gave away all the books but that one.

Beads Or?
by Kavicandra Swami

If we spent as much time chanting as we do debating (arguing), we would be doing quite well. I don't recall that Srila Prabhupada ever said that we should not chant unless we have beads.

Puerto Rico Needs a Gardener
by Jayasri Dasi

Here in Puerto Rico there is about an acre of land that has been transformed into a beautiful botanical garden, with fountains, walkways, and sitting/japa places. It's beautiful. We are losing our present gardener and need a replacement.

Raising the Level of Exchange
by Thakur Haridas das

In response to the "Beads/Clicker ‘Debate’ Degenerates" article, is it necessary to publish words such as silly, foolishness, devolved and a generally belittling and derogatory tone? Some of the points in the article are very nice, being supported by shastra, but they would be nicer if they were not couched in a negative / critical tone toward another devotee.

Even if there was a mistake, it can be corrected in a gentle positive manner, with respect for other persons and their feelings. I, for one, would appreciate an improved editorial policy to minimize ad hominum insinuations and insults and to promote more humble respectful exchanges. After all, we are striving to become a society of Vaishnavas!

Your servant,
Thakur Haridas das

Pilgrim’s Diary, January 22, 2002, Sydney
by Vipramukhya Swami

I would like to give a special thanks to Aniruddha Prabhu, the temple president of ISKCON Melbourne. I must say that Aniruddha was a very gracious host while I was in Melbourne. Besides making nice arrangements for my care, laundry, prasadam, etc., he also drove me around pretty much wherever we needed to go and made nice arrangements for preaching programs, etc. Yesterday he had Devamrta Maharaja and me over for lunch at his house, which is just down the road from the temple.

ISKCON Malaysia Prepares
for Food For Life

by Simheswara das

Devotees in Malaysia are getting ready for massive prasadam distribution at a Hindu Festival in Malaysia on 28th January.

In the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur, the city of the world’s tallest twin towers, the festival of Thaipusam is celebrated at a tourist attraction called Batu Caves, where about one million pilgrims attend to fulfill their vows made to Lord Muruga (Skanda). And in Penang Island about 300,000 pilgrims attend.

Why I Really Like My Clicker
by Bh Christi

I use a clicker and my beads about equally. In the mornings, I chant eight rounds on my beads before leaving for work. I work in a nursing home as a nurse— not always the cleanest environment. I bring my beads with me, in my beadbag, and use them if I have uninterrupted time (never), and I keep my beadbag with me, but for when I'm out on the floor or going through the building, I have my clicker in my hand. Everyone knows me, and they know what I'm doing.

Bhagavata Saptah, Final Day
from Ekanath dasa

HH Lokanath Swami:

Welcome to the last day of this Katha. Krsna's pastimes are unlimited and we can try and hear a few drops from that ocean in the short time remaining.

The time of separation has passed, and today Krsna and the gopis will again meet. This beautiful song [Gopi Gita] of the gopis will actually reunite them with Krsna. By hearing about the mood of the gopis, we should be developing a resolution in us to strive also for Krsna Prema. If some of you are experiencing this determination in the heart, then this effort [Bhagavata Saptah] has been a success.

Dallas Professionals Participate in
Srila Prabhupada’s Book Marathon

by Nrsimhananda dasa (GKG)

Inspired by Srila Prabhupada’s desire to have His books distributed to everyone, members of the Hari Smaran group distributed 1,329 books during the 2001 Srila Prabhupada’s book Marathon. The Hari Smaran group is a group of mostly Indian professionals whose purpose is to preach Krsna Consciousness in North Dallas. Of these 1,329 books, 583 were hardbound Bhagavad Gitas. Only 60 of these 1,329 books were sponsored. All other books were distributed in parking lots on a one-to-one basis. Aside from distributing books, more than 2,500 prasad cookies were distributed.

The Beads/Clicker "Debate"
Degenerates Further

by Babhru das

A silly, so-called debate has devolved to foolishness. Apparently in an attempt to seal the argument and have the last word, Ekesuara das has asserted that anyone who reads Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita "can see that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu chant [sic] rounds on Tulasi beads." This devotee makes an assertion that he fails to support with any scriptural evidence. In fact, in the purport to Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita 7.37, Srila Prabhupada tells us that "Chaitanya Mahaprabhu used to count on His fingers. While one hand was engaged in chanting, the other hand kept the number of rounds."

WebCam Sites
by Bhakta Ajay

Hare Krishna,

The South African Ratha Yatra festival will be held in April this year. My service is to assist in the Multimedia tent. The objective of our tent is to present Krishna Consciousness using technology. One idea was to have an interactive class using a webcam and also perhaps broadcast the festival over the internet.

Sukadeva prabhu's article is interesting because we need someone with a webcam abroad who can set up this webcam and arrange for someone to give class.

Bhagavata Saptah, Day 6
from Ekanath dasa

HH Lokanath Swami:

The gopis are not experiencing any fear of the dark, dense forest. The only thing on their minds is Krsna. So, the Lord has again disappeared. He arranges like this to reveal the gopis’ incredible devotion for Him. The gopis were lamenting, and now Radharani is joining them.

Srimati Radharani cries out, "O master! My lover! O dearmost, where are You? Where are You? Please, O mighty-armed one, O friend, show Yourself to Me, Your servant!"

We do not have these sentiments for the Lord in our heart, but at least let us repeat these divine words of the great Srimati Radharani. The gopis’ goal is Krsna, and by hearing and chanting these words, we too can develop the desire to have the same goal— Krsna.

Krishna's Plan Is the Best Plan
A lecture by Devamrta Swami

Class notes by Vipramukhya Swami

Melbourne, Australia, 21 January, 2002– Devamrta Swami came cruising in to Melbourne late last night from Singapore. He had been in London, India, and Russia. He and I were new bhaktas together in 1973 in New York, so we know each other pretty well.

He gave Srimad-Bhagavatam class this morning from SB 7.2.9. Hiranyakasipu was making plans how to kill Visnu after Lord Varaha killed Hiranyakasipu's brother, Hiranyaksa. The purport was very short.

Krishna Devotees on Trial in Puri
by Vrindaban das

After spending more than 500 days in the Puri Jail, the devotees have finally gone on trial! Friday, January 18, the trial of six accused persons— including Mandali Bhadra das and Mayapur Chandra das, both Italians, and Sudarsan das Mohapatra of Puri, famed photographer of Lord Jagannatha— for the alleged gang rape of Maria Schmidova and her daughter Tulasi devi began in the courtroom of the Honorable Guru Prasad Das, Chief Judicial Magistrate in Sri Jagannatha Puri, Orissa.

Organic Is Best
by Ravinder Sihra

To get the real higher taste it is best to use organic ingredients when making prasadam.

Organic food is now more readily available in food stores and the cost is much less than before, as the supermarkets try to win the price war. You will find most superstores now have a separate organic section and there are a few health food stores that sell only organic food from all over the world.

Chanting on a Clicker
by Jyotirmaya das

The evidence of Srila Prabhupada's instructions regarding chanting on beads and not on a clicker is overwhelming.

Chanting on a clicker, however, used to help me keep track of the number of names I’ve chanted while out running errands. In that kind of situation, using beads makes it too easy to lose my place.

Mahaprabhu Chants on Tulasi Beads
by Ekesuara das a.

In Sri Caitanya Caritamrta and Caitanya Bhagavata, all can see that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu chant rounds on Tulasi beads. Also, the Vrindavan goswamis use Tulasi beads for chanting rounds. All the acaryas including Srila Prabhupada chant rounds on the Tulasi japa mala.

Bhagavat Saptah, Day 5
from Ekanath dasa

HH Lokanath Swami:

Not getting answers from the trees, plants, creepers, Mother Earth, and the female deer, the gopis became directionless, completely lost. The mood of separation was increasing at every moment.

The gopis started enacting various pastimes of Krsna. One became Putana, another Krsna, just as you were all doing yesterday. The gopis were not present for these pastimes, rather they had heard them from others. When the cowherd boys would return in the evening they would narrate the Lord’s adventures for that day, and the gopis would come out and listen attentively. Once the pastimes were witnessed, immediately the boys would go out and share.

Dhruva Finally Resurfaces
by Dharmatma dasa and Dvijapriya dasi

By Krsna's incredible mercy, Dhruva has re-appeared from the most remote jungles of India, alive and well, though a bit puzzled over all the fuss. As parents, we strongly chastised him for not keeping in contact, thus causing worry to us and his many devotee friends and well-wishers all over the world. Relieved beyond belief, we talked on the phone, and he recounted with excitement his adventures in pursuit of his quest to find 108 Nrsimha temples.

Pilgrim’s Diary, January 18
by Vipramukhya Swami

January 18, 2002– Melbourne, 4:30 PM.

ISKCON Melbourne is the oldest Hare Krishna temple in Australia. The deities look beautiful and well looked after, and the temple room is gorgeous marble tiled with ornate Vedic-style arches.

Aniruddha dasa, the temple president, joined ISKCON in Melbourne in 1978 and has been the president of the temple since May, 1990.

The devotees are polite and well behaved. There seems to be a number of uninitiated new bhaktas and bhaktins here, which indicates to me that some people have joined the movement here recently.

Opportunity for Service in Australia
by Ajita das

A great service opportunity for a couple desiring to reside on the foremost farming project in Australia.

The New Govardhana community in Murwillumbah, Northern New South Wales, Australia requires a brahminically inclined couple to supplement their existing Deity worship team.

The applicants will be required to do an average of 20 hours service on the altar per week. The devotees would need to be flexible, peaceful, and adept at cooking and puja for the beautiful Gaura Nitai, Krishna Balaram, Radha Govardhandhari, and Giriraja Deities.

Japa Beads Versus Clicker:
The Method Srila Prabhupada Gave Us

by Ananta Sesa Naga das

In my original posting, I stated that many of the early London UK devotees were without japa mala for a long time. Whilst this was true, we nevertheless counted our completed rounds done on our fingers as individual rounds. That is, we never just chanted and chanted, we kept count of individual rounds.

It may be my ignorance, but I went out and purchased a counter and used it instead of my japa mala.

Diary of a Traveling Preacher
Volume 4, Chapter 8

by Indradyumna Swami

December 23, 2001 – January 18, 2002

The rigors of driving and taking trains across the vast expanse of Siberia and through the Urals had taken its toll on me. I was completely exhausted. It wasn’t simply the mode of transportation, but living in a different apartment almost every night, eating irregularly, and having practically no regular sleep. Altogether, it had brought my health to a dangerously low level. I was aware of it because my vision was sometimes blurring, my knees gave in when I walked up stairs, and I was forgetting the most simple things. My body was warning me to slow down.

Dhruva Dasa Missing
by Dharmatma das and Dvijapriya dasi

Our son Dhruva has not been heard from for over three weeks. He missed a rendezvous with his brother Drdha in Mamallapuram, near Chennai. He has not phoned or emailed nor checked his mail. This is highly unusual as he was very responsible to stay in touch with us.

Pilgrim's Diary - January 15-17, 2002
by Vipramukhya Swami

January 15: I'm on a flight from Seattle to San Francisco to catch a connecting flight to Melbourne, Australia. Never been there before. My first trip to down under. It's also a free flight, thanks to an accumulation of frequent flyer miles.

It's dark outside. It's 8 PM. Nothing particularly exciting. Wish I had a devotee to accompany me, but I can't afford to pay anyone's airfare other than my own. Contrary to popular myth, not all sannyasis and gurus are rich, though Krsna is taking care of me.

Navadvipa Mandala Parikrama
[From Free Forum]

Please come to the 2002 Navadvipa Mandala Parikrama

March 17th - 24th

In celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Srila Prabhupada's Gaura Purnima Festival, the Festival Committee is expecting over 25 sannyasis, GBCs, and other ISKCON leaders to participate in this year's parikrama. With the number of ISKCON leaders planning to attend the parikrama and the number of others already registered, this year's parikrama looks like it will be the best attended and most ecstatic parikrama in recent years.

New Book by Lokanath Swami
from Premanjana das

On the 14th of January H.H. Lokanath Maharaja released his new book titled Festivals, Srila Prabhupada at the Mayapur-Vrndavana Festivals.

This book has especially been published in the light of the upcoming 30th anniversary of the first Mayapur Festival, which will be celebrated in a grandiose way. Festivals takes us onsite with Srila Prabhupada as he attended the Mayapur-Vrndavana Festivals from 1972 till 1977. H.H. Lokanath Swami attended all those festivals except the 1972 Mayapur festival and interviewed more than seventy devotees.

Live Cam Sites
by Sukadeva dasa

Dear Prabhus,

Lord Krishna, the supreme communicater, through His means as Supersoul, has given mankind the intelligence to create and utilize the worldwide web. Maya seems to be putting this to maximum effect, but could we not do more? Live cam sites in temple rooms would enable any one of us to hear classes by our senior men and women any time of the day and night all over the world. This would surely be a huge step forward in our efforts to advance everbody in Krishna consciosness.

Are there any such sites or plans to create any?

Invitation for Surat Temple Opening
by Jashomatinandan das

In 1982, we were donated a beautiful Radha Krsna temple in Surat on the bank of the Tapi River, considered the seventh holy river in the Puranas. There is description of the Tapi in Caitanya Caritamrta. Lord Caitanya visited the bank of River Tapi.

By the grace of Shrila Prabhupada, a grand new temple has been constructed for their Lordships Shri Shri Radha Damodara and their Lordships Shri Shri Jagannatha, Balarama, and Subhadra....The installation ceremony will begin on Feb 15th.

Bhagavata Saptah, Day 4
from Ekanath dasa

HH Lokanath Swami:

By disappearing, Krsna both fulfilled Radharani’s desire to have some special attention from Krsna and also increased the greed the gopis were feeling to have His association. The gopis are energies of Radharani. They are inseparable from Her and Krsna. The Lord is playing with His own forms.

So, now that search for "the most wanted" is going on, their prana vallabha. The gopis continued to ask the trees and plants if they had seen Krsna. "Have you seen Balarama’s younger brother, Ramanuja?" In Rama lila Ramanuja (younger brother of Rama) is Laxman. Then, Laxman as the younger brother had to follow Rama and do as He was told. Sometimes, Lord Rama would choose to fight and instruct Laxman to stand back. Therefore, in Krsna Lila, Balarama insisted in coming as the elder brother of Krsna.

Clicker-Inspired Poetry
from Radha dasi

Sat-sanga das and I each wrote a spur-of-the-moment poem inspired by these talks of the use of the clicker and thought we'd share them.

By Sat-sanga das
Click, click, click my japa goes

And see the numbers in the little window

Japa Beads vs. Clicker
by Sankarshan Das Adhikari

I noticed there was some controversy on Chakra regarding chanting on japa beads vs. chanting with a clicker. Consulting Srila Prabhupada's teachings in this regard, I found numerous instructions to us from him that we should chant on beads. For the sake of brevity I have included only a few of them here.

Also, when I was initiated, Srila Prabhupada mercifully mailed me from London a set of japa beads that he had chanted on. He did not include a clicker, nor did he ever chant on a clicker.

The Counter Controversy
by Ravinder Shira

It is, of course, best to chant on Tulsi beads, as touching Tulsi is more purifying and there are stronger vibes and contact with Tulsi, who is very dear to Lord Sri Krishna.

For devotees living in temples, chanting on Tulsi beads should be no problem. For devotees living outside and having jobs, it is not that easy, as they are always on the go.

The Clickster
by Radha dasi

Namaste Sat-sanga das,

My name is Radha dasi, and I just wanted to drop you a line about your article posted on CHAKRA.

I just have to say that it's great that you have chanted so much over the past so many years, and if it takes a device other than what is traditional, then so be it. It is in the intention and desire that you pursue your spiritual life, not in the tools used. So good for you for doing whatever it took to do what you need to do— more power to you!

Humbly,
Radha dasi

Bhagavata Saptah, Day 3
from Ekanath dasa

HH Lokanath Swami:

Yesterday we heard the Lord speak female dharma to the gopis. Actually, this is not for the gopis or the raganugas, but rather for us. We should not try and transcend such laws at our stage.

Hearing the words of Krsna, the gopis were lifeless. Then, after a long silence, they started sharing their hearts to their Lord and master, and after hearing their words He could not send them back.  In these five chapters we can see the transcendental meditation of Radharani and the gopis. Sukadeva Goswami is our guide and he is taking us on a tour showing us the spiritual world and its residents.

Bhagavata Saptah, Day 2
from Ekanath dasa

HH Lokanath Swami:

This topic is the topmost knowledge and is for the goswamis, those who are every minute of the day hankering to hear these pastimes of the Lord. Just as a drunkard cannot be without his alcohol, the topmost Vaisnavas cannot be without the beautiful narrations of Krsna’s pastimes. To such acaryas we offer our full obeisances.

Today, we have to follow a strict schedule. But this kind of activity should not be done while looking at the watch. The goswamis had no concept of time. They were willing to hear and chant all day long, forgoing eating and sleeping.

Why I Occasionally Chant on My Counter
by Bhaktin Katie

I have occasionally found myself reaching for my silver ball so that I can get my rounds completed simultaneously performing my very important and consuming service of guiding my two children, Sridhama and Chaya Namaste. I had to find a balance between getting my rounds done, feeling frustrated if they were interrupted, and practicality.

Bhagavata Saptah, Day 1
by Ekanath das

HH Lokanath Swami:

In the morning we will be discussing five chapters of Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 10– Chapters 29-33. The 10th Canto is the heart of the Lord, and these five Chapters are His life airs. In the evening we will discuss the Lord’s Gokul Lila in 10th Canto– Chapters 1-11.

These topics are not easy for conditioned souls like us to understand. Thus, taking shelter of our previous acaryas, beginning with Srila Prabhupada, we will simply repeat what they have said and try and throw some light on the matter.

Sankirtan for Grihastas
by Jagannatha Mishra das

In the following article, we are going to give you practical hints and a proven method to do it.

When I First Joined, I Had No Beads
by Ananta Sesa Naga das

It has been asked if: "the method of chanting rounds with a counter is approved by guru, sadhu, sastra."

Whilst I am unsure of this, I can relate my own personal experience in relation to the question.

I joined ISKCON in London in 1970 with Purnananda das and Troylokianath das. Neither of us had japa beads for some time. There were many joining, and there was a shortage of japa beads.

Chanting Rounds on a Counter
by Bhakta Jerry

Hare Krishna, This is a response to Ekesuara's question about chanting rounds with a counter. I do not have any scriptural evidence to answer the question about whether or not a counter is authorized. However, I would like to give my opinion based on personal experience.

I have often wondered why devotees use counters, especially if they have initiated malas. The only reason I can think of is fear. It is to risk embarrassment or persecution to chant on your mala out in public.

Why I Chant Rounds with a Counter
by Sat-sanga Das

I am writing this in response to Ekesuara Prabhu who asked the question, "Why chant rounds with a counter?" He asked for approval by Guru, Sadhu, and Shastra, which is the proper Vaisnava etiquette in establishing a philosophical investigation. I employed the injunction of accepting those things favorable for devotional service as my defense presentation in my habitual use of a counter, which I affectionately call a clicker.

Byron Bay Ratha Yatra

The New Govardhana Farm Community held its ninth annual Ratha Yatra at Byron Bay.

Women: Brain Research

by Nandarani dd

Recently spent some time in Borders Books Honolulu browsing a new book by a male author. Found the following information and conclusions from this author who reports the research recently done by some scientists who are men.

Even though we have seen much discussion on the subject of women, no one has forwarded any information like this. I showed this to a male Prabhupada devotee who replied showing how this research backs up what Srila Prabhupada said about women but in a way that was not offensive to me.

Thought of the Week:
The Scriptures and Their Relevance

from ISKCON, Washington, D.C.

Although many of us are blessed with good fortune and have much to be grateful for, at any moment suffering, fear and grief can invade our lives. In helplessness and dependence, recognizing that our existence is as fragile as a drop of water on a lotus leaf, we may ask, "Why am I suffering?" "Why is there evil in the world?" and "Will I exist beyond this life?"

Such questions make us natural students of the scriptures that form the philosophical tradition of the East: Bhagavad-gita, Srimad Bhagavatam and Caitanya Charitamrita.

Why Chant Rounds with a Counter?
by Ekesuara das a.

I would like to say something about chanting rounds on a little machine used by managers of sports stores. I see many devotees using this counter, and I ask, "Prabhu, what are you doing?"

And they say, "I am chanting my rounds."

Tribhuvannatha Website Deleted?

Every so often I like to check the website to see if other of my god-brothers and sisters have written about Tribhuvannatha. I went to check today and found that I received an error message indicating that it no longer existed.

Pilgrim's Diary - Tuesday, January 8, 2002
by Vipramukhya Swami

Nasau County, Long Island, New York

There's snow outside, and the sun is shining. My Salagram Silas and Govardhan Silas are situated on an altar a few feet away. I am in a living room. The floor is carpeted wall to wall. There are many plants, both real and artificial, and many pictures of Krishna on the walls.

I am at the house of Balaram and Revati, two aspiring Indian disciples originally from Trinidad. They have two grown children, both living at home, both deaf from birth, one boy and one girl.

A Wider Understanding of ISKCON
by Shesha das (GKG)

Everyone has probably noticed how fast things are changing at the present time. These developments affect our lives, preaching, domestic life, or families. Naturally, ISKCON as an entity is also growing, developing, and changing. Our society isn't a company of a few old monks sitting behind closed bars and waiting for the Kingdom of God to come.

Dropping the Lawsuit
by Laksmana

Thank you for your sincere devotion to Krishna all these years, and please accept my humble obeisances and apologies for being so veiled by ignorance and misjudging the situation due to getting triggered by almost inhuman amounts of pain as a child and up until the last few months, really. I hope you can all forgive me as I am just now remembering my deep love for Their Lordships Srimati Radhika and Sri Sri Krsna, and I know now that all good is possible and will reign on earth as long as we keep faith.

The lawsuit against ISKCON is still going on—it is just in state court now, but I am dropping my participation and praying that others’ eyes and hearts will open as mine have.

My Miraculous Chloe
by Madhumati devi dasi

I haven't been updating you all about Chloe because they banned me from phoning the hospital! I guess too many of us were phoning about her & driving the ICU people crazy. But, I called anyway, and I'm happy I did.

Chloe is moving out of ICU [intensive care unit] today! Into a regular room!

She's recovering from the pneumonia. She's been sitting up. She drank mango lassi last night. And today—ta da—she ate spaghettios! (Vegetarian) Turns out it was only two bites, but hey, the kid's eating, and that's a miracle.

Update on Bhaktin Chloe, Jan 4, 2002
by Madhumati devi dasi

Chloe is very weak. Due to that heavy surgery she had, she now has pneumonia, and they're pumping her full of more antibiotics. She's still on dialysis but they did some surgical thing, and only do the dialysis every two days now. Emily said Chloe's a bit confused these days. Perhaps it's because she's so weak.

His Divine Grace
Srila Prabhupada's Books

by Ravinder Sihra

His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada's books should be given top priority in all ISKCON Temples that exist on this planet.

I strongly feel that each ISKCON temple should have the complete works of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada and should have these displayed in the best manner possible in the temple reception area or the temple shop. This should be the main section, and all other books, tapes, videos, etc., by other devotees should be kept separate from the main section.

Bhaktin Chloe Is Improving:
Please Keep Your Prayers Coming!

by Madhumati devi dasi

Hey, everybody! I just talked to Bhaktin Chloe!! Isn't that just so great?!...

I spoke to Emily today to check up on Chloe, and Chloe, who is very weak, can hardly speak, cannot even move her arms, demanded that her mother put her on the phone to me! And, the little brat (she says affectionately), after me telling her everyone's praying for her, had the audacity to ask me if I've been going to Mangal Arati!

Update on Bhaktin Chloe
by Madhumati devi dasi
[from Free Forum]

Thank you for your prayers! Bhaktin Chloe has had her sedation reduced. They got her to cough and swallow, to establish that she has her gag reflex.

Once that was established, they took her off the respirator! She's now awake and talking. Well, I think it's more like croaking so far because of her having had tubes down her throat.
