The Passing Away of
Ojasvi Prabhu

By Sri Thakur das

Dear devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

My father, Ojasvi Prabhu, left his body at 7:47 a.m. here in San Diego, on the most auspicious Appearance Day of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He passed away due to complications from leukemia.

Ojasvi dasa, age 50, was an initiated disciple of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. He joined the Denver ISKCON Temple in 1972. Subsequently he served in Denver, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Seattle, the Bridesville farm in Canada, and San Diego.

Ojasvi was a skilled artist and sculptor, and while in Los Angeles he worked on a project very dear to Srila Prabhupada, the First American Theistic Exhibition, popularly known as the FATE museum.

To Their Lordships
From Yashoda Dulal das

To: Their Lordships Sri-Sri Radha-Govindaji, Srila Prabhupada and all the devotees,

Please accept my sincerest dandavats. Jaya Sri-Sri Radha-Govindaji! Jaya Srila Prabhupada! Jaya Srila Gurudeva!

On March 15th, 2002, Your Lordships called my spiritual master, Srila Tamal Krishna Goswami Gurudeva, back to You.

I have always felt a connection with Your Lordships because Srila Gurudeva took sannyasa before You. Once, standing in front of You, I begged You that the next time I meet Srila Gurudeva, I must take initiation from him. I wanted it to be official so that it will be beyond any doubt that I am his.

Website Dealing with Narayana Maharaja's War on ISKCON
From Prithu das Adhikary (ACBSP)

Please visit my website

The site serves as a clearing-house for GBC papers in the Narayana Maharaja issue— contributions of Badri, Ravindra, Drutakarma, Datta, Dravida and more. Plus everything Srila Prabhupada instructed on how to deal with the Gaudya Math, plus a whole section with Narayana Maharaja's own statements.

The site has been seen as very effective in repelling Narayana Maharaja's influence.

Please send your contributions. They will be up and running the next day.

A Request to All ISKCON Leaders
By N.I. Umakantha Sarma

I am an aspiring devotee writing from Dubai, UAE. I first came to know about HH Tamal Krishna Goswami Maharaja in the Back to Godhead magazine, where it was mentioned that Maharaja had a prolonged illness and subsequently Maharaja was cured.

Recently, I was able to watch Maharaja's video titled "God and Demigods, " which was wonderful and dispelled lot of doubts about the position of demigods. The way Maharaja narrated the facts was really exceptional and relishing. Since the first week of March, I have been browsing the Mayapur.info web site, where the photographs of Maharaja along with HH Jayapataka Swami were posted.

What’s Happening to Our Reputation?
From: Bhakta Jason Pearson

Hare Krsna,

All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to His Holiness Tamal Krsna Goswami Maharaja!

First I would like to offer my sincerest obeisance to all the devotees working so hard to carry out the wishes of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada, our greatest instructor. I understand that it's been a long and hard road in certain respects for the population at large to understand the purpose of Lord Caitanya's mission, and even harder for people to see ISKCON's work as one arm of Mahaprabhu's extended endeavors.

Kirtana by Aindra
From Antonio de Ruijter

Hare Krsna,

I was wondering if there is no devotee wishing to write about the 24-hour kirtana performed at Krishna-Balaram Mandir by Aindra das. His CDs are wonderful, but it would be as wonderful to have him singing and glorifying on a video— especially for those of us who cannot but dream of visiting Vrndavana even once in a lifetime.

With due respect, are devotees indifferent about this yajna, which is taking place for their benefit as well?

I wrote to BTG, to ask about this and the editor told me they will publish something about Aindra if some devotee would write about him... :-(

So, there you go.

Regards from Holland,
Antonio de Ruijter

Krsna Is Not a Fossil
By Bhaktavatsala das (NZ)

All due respects, but after reading Vipramukhya Swami's account of the Port Authority bus terminal, and the intensive security, I was sorry to note that he felt it necessary to refer to his worshipful deities as "fossils."

Especially as a religious leader and leading preacher of Krishna consciousness, it would surely have been more appropriate to refer to Them as (perhaps) "traditional religious icons," or something more accurate, appropriate, and respectful.

Down-to-the-Ground Love
By Vrsabha das (SKS)

I joined the movement fifteen years ago, being fed up with commercial love and superficial human relationships based on rapacious exploitation.

The only real and unconditional love I got was from my parents, who by the way, thought I was a kind of their possession. While reading Srila Prabhupada’s books, I could feel true love and genuine emotions oozing out of Vaisnava literature. I was impressed by Sri Caitanya’s loving dealings with His devotee, the Lord’s devotee’s compassion for the innocent and helpless, mutual unconditional love and trust shared between the Lord’s advanced devotees…and so on.

Looks Bad to Reasonable Persons
By Vipramukhya Swami

[Some of the material quoted in this article may be disturbing to devotees mourning the passing of Tamal Krishna Goswami.]

If you have any doubt that the antagonists of ISKCON are rejoicing over the passing of Tamal Krishna Goswami due to an unfortunate accident, then take a look at PADA. Be warned, it is an offensive website, not for the faint at heart. To quote one so-called devotee on that site: "We are very happy to learn that Tamal Krishna Goswami has died in a car crash. Krishnas mercy! A day to celebrate. We will all pray for him to get his due share in the court of Yamaraja for poisoning Srila Prabhupada and his Mission. Thanks Krishna, one demon less on this planet. Now let's get the other ones."

Thanks to Chakra
From Madana Mohini devi dasi

Hare Krsna Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances and deepest sympathies.

I'm a disciple of HH Tamal Krsna Goswami's and do not live near a temple so it has been very important to me that I have a place to touch in to keep up with the tragic events that have just occurred. I want to thank you so much for keeping us posted, as you have. The photos were a great way for us who could not be in Mayapur to witness his ending arati. Much appreciation for your service.

Festival in Sri Santipur
By Tusti Mohan Krsna das

Dear Devotees

March 26, 2002, hundreds of devotees went to Sri Santipur, where the house of Sri Advaita Acarya is, to perform one of the most sublime and devotional services to the Lord, during this day, which is two days before Gaurpurnima. Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu and Sri Nityananda Prabhu accepted invitations from Sri Advaita Acarya ( all of them are the Lord Himself in different aspects) to honor prasadam at his house in Santipur and many extraordinary pastimes happened there, but the most important thing for a devotee is the special blessings that Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu gave: that everyone who takes prasadam at that place and that day will get automatically Krsna Prema (Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu Ki jaya!).

Tamal Krishna Goswami

By Urmila devi dasi

March 24, 2002

Dear Tamal Krishna Maharaja,

Please accept my obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I first met you when you were traveling with Radha-Damodara. How I wished I could have joined that bus party! Yours and Visnujana Swami’s program was the epitome of a daily spiritual festival. In 1976-77 we had the good fortune to serve under your authority in Gita-nagari. With all respect to the many wonderful devotees under whom we have served Srila Prabhupada, I have always said that your guidance was the most wonderful. Not only was every thing expertly managed, but also every devotee felt your personal love and concern.

Vrndavanesvari devi dasi
By Prana dasa

On Tuesday evening the devotees of New Varsana held a ceremony in commemoration of Vrndavanesvari. Devotees and family members arrived from all over Australasia. The evening began with mellow bhajans and enthusiastic kirtan of the holy name. Between 5.00 pm and 8.00 pm, devotees and family shared their memories of Vrndavanesvari in an attempt to bring some form of closure to the deep-seated grief and unbearable sense of loss we all feel.

Many heartfelt and tearful exchanges were shared in a mixed mood of awe and intimate affection. The program was completed with the most amazing feast you could ever imagine, a fitting feast for a great stalwart master in the kitchen and then a totally empowered kirtan for the 9.00 arati until about 10.00 pm. Devotees remained huddled in small groups reminiscing into the wee small hours of the morning.

Divine Protection Is Now Yours
By Sarvabhavana dasa

One of the world's most advanced technologies has been used to make the most powerful weapon in the universe, Lord Vishnu's Sudarshan Chakra!

This auspicious and beautifully rendered symbol offers powerful protection for all devotees of the Lord. Crafted from solid metal, it can guard the top of your altar, stand proudly on the roof of your house, or decorate a door, wall, child's room, or your car.

The Chakra, or disc, is a divine weapon and personal associate of Lord Vishnu, Who engages this worshipable servant to protect surrendered souls.

Lord Nityananda
and Srila Prabhupada

By David Greensberg

I'm not so sure that describing Srila Prabhupada as being a vessel of Nityananda Prabhu is essentially wrong, as some have stated. The guru and Krsna are one. This is our understanding.

When Srila Prabhupada arrived in the west, he took upon himself the role of Jagat-guru. Since Nityananda is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, it could be said that He inhabited Srila Prabhupada’s body. Not that there was something unusual about that. That is the very definition of guru: the guru is God, not God absolute, but God in spirit. The guru is always inhabited by Nityananda. This is the mystic union of the sankirtan yajna.

Harinam in Croatia
By Bh. Stipica

In Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, Saturday (2002/03/09) was not only Ekadasi day but it was definitely the day of the Holy Name. On a nice sunny day, more than eighty devotees gathered, led by His Holiness Sacinandana Swami, to take part in a big (probably the biggest ever) walking Harinam through the streets and main square of Zagreb.

The procession was also carrying Gaura Nitai Deities. There was nice media coverage of this (unusual) happening. Harinam finished after more than three hours of chanting in ecstasy.

Choosing a Guru
By Bhaktin Alice

After being so many years in Krsna consciousness, I have been able to see this problem more clearly, and I’m surer that this thing doesn’t work without Krsna’s mercy. Doesn’t matter how we try, we will have to understand that some gurus in ISCKON are not available for us personally, so why hanker and lament?

When we are ready in our daydreaming like: "I absolutely want Him" or "He’s so fantastic. He smiles so beautifully," then we can turn to Krsna and He will give us spiritual eyes to see who’s really there for us. This thing about choosing a guru is really the biggest step in our lives, and we might not find our guru yet, but if we give this thing time and intelligence, it will come.

Brahmin Bagels!
By Devadeva dasi (HHBTS)

Although we devotees like to restrict ourselves to homemade breads, every once in a while some of us get that certain yen for a little bagel nosh. Instead of submitting ourselves to the karma and disappointment of store-bought supermarket bagels, why not make our own? I have seen some pretty good bagel recipes by devotee chefs and feel it is my dharma to continue the bagel parampara.

Tamal Krishna Goswami
By BB Govinda Swami

Dear Vaisnava Community,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Tamal Krishna Goswami joined us in kirtan every evening prior to his departure.

For many nights the kirtan had been conducted in his quarters. No invitation was required. When the doors opened, the room quickly filled to capacity with devotees, young and old, eager to enter into the nectarean chanting of the Lord's holy names.

This was really the spiritual highlight of each day. It was the event that gave meaning to being in Mayapur. We all sat together, with one of our most elder brothers, a loving family of devotees, singing the names of Sri Radha and Sri Krishna with deep feeling.

Trying to Understand
By Yasoda Kumar Das

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to my dear Gurudev Tamal Krsna Goswami Maharaj!

The loss of my dear Gurudev is unmeasured. We were shocked, we were crying, we were and still are praying. But we have never forgotten our Gurudev's instructions to us. Now all disciples of our dear Gurudev are trying to do something for the realization of our Gurudev's desire.

The following is a quotation from Srimad Bhagavatam 3.16.37.

Holi Festival

The Krishna temple in Spanish Fork, Utah, invites all members of the public to celebrate the festival of Holi on Saturday, March 30th, from 4 pm.

Anuradha Prabhasankher from the Lasya Dance Company of San Francisco will present the stories behind this festival in a classical Indian dance format. Other elements of the festival will be observed with storytelling, musical interludes, the building of a bonfire, and the throwing of dry colors on friend and foe alike.  The dry powders supplied by the temple are non-stain, but still, guests are cautioned not to wear their Sunday Best. Afterwards, everyone will enjoy a sumptuous vegetarian feast.

Mayapur Festival Update
By Tusti Mohan Krsna dasa

March 18th– More than one thousand devotees in the international group and about fifteen hundred devotees in the Nama Hatta group left for six days on Nabadwip mandal parikrama. (pics at www.mayapur.info) They will stay out for six nights camping in different island of Navadwip and come back to Mayapur on 24th March. From 24th March different festivities will take place in Mayapur. Very big preparations for different kinds of festivities are in progress.

From Bhakti Ballabh Tirtha Maharaja

Swami Jayapataka Maharaj,

I am severely shocked to get the news of passing away of Swami Tamal Krishna Maharaj due to a road accident at Fulia on 15th morning, published in the Hindustan Times newspaper, Calcutta. I had the opportunity to see him and talk to him in several meetings of the Trustees of the BSCT at your Mayapur Chandrodaya Math. What can we do where there is no remedy? We are forced to tolerate. I only pray to Sree Guru Gauranga Radha-Krishna to bestow eternal peace to the departed soul.

A Short Remembrance
of Tamal Krishna Goswami

By Kripanidhi das

It was August 1973, and I was a young brahmacari on travelling sankirtana with Ganapati and Dharmatma. We were all young and new to Krishna consciousness. Our  party had arrived in New Vrindavana for the Janmasthami and Srila Prabhupada's Appearance day Celebration. Tamal Krishna Maharaja and Vishnujana Maharaja were giving discourse on Srila Visvanatha Chakravarti's prayers to the Spiritual Master.

Update on Puri Rape Trial
By Vrindaban dasa

In August 2000, several Krishna devotees were arrested in Sri Jagannatha Puri dham and charged with raping the six year old daughter of Slovakian Maria Schmidova (30). The devotees include Sriman Bhakta dasa, an old disciple of Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada; Sriman Mayapur Chandra dasa, also a disciple of Srila Prabhupada; and His Grace Mandali Bhadra dasa, a disciple of H.H. Hrdayananda Goswami. Also arrested were Asoke Sahu, a follower of Paramadvaiti Swami, and four local Puri men, including the famed photographer of Lord Jagannatha, Sudarshan dasa Mohapatra.

From the inception, the men arrested protested vehemently and requested the authorities to have Maria examined by mental-health experts. They also appealed for the police not to allow Maria to leave India, as they knew she would not appear at the time of trial. The police never had Maria examined, and they did not prevent her from leaving India.

The Glories of Srimati
Vrndavanesvari Mataji

by Sri Sudevi dasi

I was most blessed by being able to spend time with Vrindavanesvari these last six months as I was living in New Varshan. Sometimes she travelled around to make money for devotee projects and to sustain her family, but mostly she was on the farm and each morning would be at mangalarati wrapped up in her chaddars, absorbed in the kirtan, and then she would sit and chant japa until greetings without fail unless she was cooking breakfast.

The Glories of the Late Adiraj Prabhu
By Bhaktin Yesha
on behalf on Nrshingha Prabhu

Recently, on the 11th of March, six Mauritian devotees were killed in a car accident in the south of Mauritius. Among them, three were initiated devotees and three of them were devotee children.

Adiraj Prabhu and his wife, Vilasini Devi Dasi, two of the victims, were disciples of His Holiness Giriraj Swami. Adiraj Prabhu was a very ardent and dynamic preacher. He never liked to stay idle but wanted to preach in all circumstances, and on the eve of his death, he gave a lecture on the glories of Tulasi Devi. In fact, there is something that many Mauritian devotees are unaware of: Adiraj Prabhu is the one who sent the silas of Krsna and Balaram, who are being worshipped in our Radha Golokananda temple.

Time Has Separated Us
By Laksmi Nrsimha Das

Dear Tamal Krsna Goswami Maharaja:

This relative factor known as time has separated us again. You have now joined Prabhupada in his eternal sankirtan lila and I remain behind solidly enamored and controlled by the time factor of this material world. For three years, I had the blessing of your association while traveling on the Radha Damodara party. You personally brought me to the fire sacrifice for my first and second intiation by Srila Prabhupada. For a period of time you allowed me the honor of being your secretary and personally gave me lessons that were taught to you by our beloved gurudev, Srila Prabhupada.

and Sudama Prabhu

Text and Photos
by Madhusudani Radha devi dasi

Dear Maharaja,

Here are the photos I promised you. Please excuse the delay. I had to search a bit to find the negatives and then make a new set of prints. Hope you like them. I think they're showing a very sweet mood. At least that's how I remember that day in November 1993.

Sudama had told Brahmananda and me that he wanted to see Tamal Krsna Maharaja before he died, so we got him Maharaja's phone number, and Sudama called him up. Tamal Krishna Goswami was stunned to hear the voice of his old friend after 17 years of being out of touch. Afterwards Sudama was so happy. He said that Maharaja had promised to visit him before he died.

It Made Me Serious
By Abhinanda dasa GKG

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

As a second-generation devotee, I cannot feel that much for the departure of Srila Prabhupada. From the beginning, he is transcendental for me, in the spiritual world. However, when I got the news of His Holiness Tamal Krishna Goswami Maharaj going, for me it was as if Srila Prabhupada had left the planet. That is how much Tamal Krishna Goswami is associated with Srila Prabhupada for me, although I have never personally met him.

Pilgrim's Diary—
Thoughts on the Way to Connecticut

By Vipramukhya Swami

Wednesday, 20 March 2002, Greyhound Bus

I'm bouncing around on a Greyhound Bus. It's raining outside. It's been raining for days. It's half past twelve in the afternoon.

A minute ago the bus passed over a bridge from the northern tip of Manhattan to the Bronx. This is New York City, and I'm on my way to Connecticut.

At Port Authority Bus terminal, the bus terminal that's as big as an airport, they were examining the carry-on bags of everyone getting on the bus. The inspector eyed my Salagram Silas and asked what They were. I told him they were "fossils." They also passed a metal detector over everyone boarding the bus. These are new security measures in place since September 11.

Tamal Krsna Goswami

By Swami B.V. Tripurari

I first met Tamal Krsna Goswami in Gauda Mandala Bhumi, the circle of Gaudadesa in which the lila of Sri Gaurasundara is eternally performed. The last time I saw him he was was also in Gaudadesa, and today I have learned that he passed from this world in that same Gauda Mandala Bhumi.

I knew him for 28 years, and I served Srila Prabhupada and Mahaprabhu shoulder to shoulder with him from the spring of 1975 to the summer of 1977 and then again from the summer of 1978 until sometime in 1980. He is not a person one can easily forget.

Heartfelt Condolences
by Arjuna dasa

Hare Krsna.

I am terribly saddened by the sudden tragic passing of His Holiness Tamal Krsna Goswami and Vrndavanesvari devi dasi and the injuries suffered by her husband and the driver of the taxi en route to the Calcutta airport. I offer my sincerest, deepest, and most heartfelt condolences to all the devotees of Lord Krsna who will suffer pangs of separation and grief at the disappearance of these two great and humble devotees. I joined ISKCON in 1991 in Berkeley, California, and had the very good fortune and opportunity to meet His Holiness on more than one occasion, and always looked forward with great enthusiasm to his visits to the Bay Area. I am deeply shocked by this horrible mishap.

Lectures and Classes on the Net
By N.I.U. Sarma

Hare Krishna. Please accept my humble obeisances.

I would like to bring to your notice that there are continuous lectures, classes, etc. by various ISKCON gurus and maharajas in their respective temples or zones where they are traveling. Especially topics on Bhagavatam, Krishna katha, and special lectures on appearance days of various Vaishnava devotees are very much required at this current moment.

It would be in the interest of all devotees if those lectures or classes are transcribed and posted on the net. I am sure the teachings by ISKCON leaders in various parts of the world can be summarized and posted on the net for the benefit of devotees. My humble request is to post more commentaries and teachings by senior devotees and leaders.

Aspiring humble servant,

Memories of Gurudeva,
Tamal Krishna Goswami

By Dr Prayag Narayan Misra,
ISKCON Phoenix, Arizona, USA

My association with Gurudev began in Houston, Texas, USA, in 1979 while I was visiting from Norway. Gurudev had just returned from a trip to Fiji with a newly married devotee and his godbrother Dharma Bhavanadas. I heard his discourses on Bhagavad-Gita, and it made an immediate impression upon me. With the mercy of Radharani, I continued his satsang again in Houston, and later on the Oklahoma farm and in Dallas, where I had even closer participation at Kalachand Ji's Dham, until 1999.

Bhagavad-Gita: On Leaving the Body
From Maha Varaha Dasa

Hare Krsna! Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to Tamal Krsna Goswami Maharaj!

Some devotees have doubts: How come a pure devotee like HH Tamal Krsna Goswami Maharaj could leave his body in an accident?

Here are some quotations from Bhagavad-Gita As It Is that can clear their doubts.

Orphanage in Russia
By Sachi devi dasi

I wanted to let you know what I was working on and beg for your participation. For those of you that may not know, Indradyumna Swami writes monthly diary entries on his traveling experiences. A few months ago, he wrote about an orphanage in Central Russia that the devotees attempt to visit frequently. He himself visits once a year. There are about 30-35 children in this orphanage.

The devotees in the area were bringing the children prashadam, teaching them the maha mantra, doing artwork, and various other activities. The devotees in this area have very little money, so although they were able to give some time, they didn't have much money to offer for devotional paraphenalia. These children were so enlivened by the visits that they would carve their own japa beads from local wood, write frequent letters to the devotees, color pictures of Krishna, and some even joined the temple at age 18.

I sang mangala arati that morning, and during the Tulasi puja, Gopal Raja came running in and said that they had just had a phone call that there was severe accident and Tamal Krishna Goswami was unconscious.

I made an announcement to the assembled devotees, and we all prayed together for a minute. Then I ran out and joined Jayapataka Swami, Sivarama Swami, Jayadvaita Swami and Niranjana Swami in a car, and we left for the site, on the other side of Santipur in a place called Phulia. That is where Haridas Thakur was beaten and was tempted by Mayadevi.

Diary of a Traveling Preacher,
Volume 4 - Chapter 11

By Indradyumna Swami

March 16, 2002

Dear Tamal Krsna Goswami,

Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Today I am writing you a posthumous letter, just as our spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, did in the assembly of his disciples in Seattle when his godbrother Bhakti Prajana Kesvava Maharaja passed away in 1968.

At that time Srila Prabhupada wrote:

"Be it resolved that we the undersigned members and devotees of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in a condolence meeting, express our profound bereavement on hearing of the passing of Kesava Gosvami Maharaja, our sannyasa guru."

Goswami Maharaja, this evening a number of your godbrothers, disciples, friends, and wellwishers are also expressing our profound bereavement that, by the mysterious plan of the Lord, you have suddenly been taken from our vision. We are still in a state of shock as to how we have become bereft of one of ISKCON's great sankirtan generals.

Dear Devotees,

Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

I would like to share with you the pics of the samadhi of HH Tamal Krishna Goswami here in Mayapur the day after his body was placed there.

Every devotee who passes by offer his respects to such a great servant of Srila Prabhupada. His Holiness TKG is the first guru buried in Mayapur and his samadhi is close to the samadhi of Srila Prabhupada. The location of the samadhi of HH Tamal Krishna Goswami has been designated as the location for the samadhis of other disciples of Srila Prabhupada, and it is located at the entrance to the housing area.

Looking for an Old Friend
From Mary Udeh

I have been searching to re-connect with my long-lost best friend from college who is a Krishna Devotee. During the late 1980's she was based in the ISKCON Washington DC chapter. Her previous name was Joy Irechukwu. She was born in Birmingham, England, but attended the University of Lagos with me in Lagos, Nigeria.

Public Apology
From Gargamuni and Brahmananda

11 March 2002

Dear Vaisnavas,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

The following is an open letter of apology to the entire Vaisnava community within ISKCON. We would like to very sincerely and humbly request the forgiveness from all of you for some serious mistakes we have made by our recent actions.

We request that you please understand our motivations. Although we were wrong to pirate Tapes, CD’s and the Bhaktivedanta VedaBase from the Bhaktivedanta Archives, VCD’s from ISKCON Television and BBT material, our motives were not purely financial.

Thanks for all your reports in this hard time... It is very very hard/sad to read it all... My daughter wanted to take initiation from TKG and my wife did— I have second from him and he was very merciful to me...I did some service for him along time ago—1979-1980 around then, and since then he has always allowed me complete access to him. He could be in any big meeting, and I could walk in this room not matter where he was...he would invite me to take prasadam with him.. He especially was merciful to my wife...And before his operation for prostate cancer had a dream about my wife, Sakuntala. My 16 year old daughter would write him every four months and tell give him a report of what she was doing...he gave her intimate advice on how to deal with guys hitting on her at school etc.

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to His Holiness Srila Tamal Krishna Goswami Maharaja.

Here in Dallas we were all shocked when we heard the news. It is very hard to accept that we will not be able to see Tamal Krishna Maharaja walking around the neighborhood here in Dallas and visiting with the devotees on the block. Dallas is very much his home and he has been the driving force behind the establishment of this wonderful community of devotees.

Tamal Krishna Goswami  Will Be Missed
By Bhakta Omer

I saw HH Tamal Krishna Goswami for the first time in ‘97, when he visited Israel. At the time, I was being introduced to Krishna Consciousness. I heard HH in a series of lectures. One day, in one of his lectures, HH talked about being committed to Krishna Consciousness and how we should follow the regulative principles and chant daily.

Tamal Krishna Goswami:
Back to Krishna

By Amogha das

This morning His Holiness Tamal Krsna Goswami left to go to Krishna. He was in a road accident after leaving at 3:00 am from ISKCON Sri Mayapur.

His Holiness Sridhar Maharaj announced the news to the devotees in the temple here at about 7 am. He said, "We pray that Tamal Krishna Maharaj will continue to shower us with his blessings from his position in the spiritual world. All we can do now is pray to Sri Sri Radha Madhava."

I personally felt Goswami Maharaj's presence after hearing there was an accident but not knowing if he was gone. He assured me, "I am with Srila Prabhupada and Krishna, and everything is all right."

Pilgrim's Diary - 15 March 2002
The Passing of Tamal Krishna Goswami

By Vipramukhya Swami

I had packed away my Salagram and Govardhan Silas and was preparing to leave Bhaktivedanta Manor for a morning flight to America when I heard the news. Tamal Krishna Goswami has passed away. He died in a horrible automobile accident in a taxi, just after leaving Mayapur, India, on the way to the Calcutta airport.

As soon as I heard, I became stunned. I stopped packing my bags and went downstairs where there was a meeting of senior devotees taking place, discussing the situation.

What can I say about Tamal Krishna Goswami? He was a great devotee, often misunderstood by ISKCON's antagonists. He was among the first devotees selected by Srila Prabhupada to serve on the GBC body. He was Srila Prabhupada's personal secretary, even up to the point of Srila Prabhupada's passing from his body.

The Glories of Vrndavanesvari
By Krsnendu Dasa

Vrndavanesvari Mataji will be greatly missed by all the devotees of New Varshana, Auckland, New Zealand. She was an inspiration to everyone in many ways.

She was a very generous person with her time, money, and affection. Many devotees gained great comfort knowing that she was there to listen to them, comfort them and provide them with good counsel.

She is famous for her devotional cooking. Whenever she cooked, you could tell she put everything into pleasing the devotees. Pizza rolls were popular items on her menu, and sweets were her specialty, especially her three-tiered carob cake with whipped cream and jam. I will always remember her serving devotees at feasts after community-working bees — taking great pleasure in getting devotees to take more cake.

Above all, she will forever be remembered for her absorption in chanting the Holy Name.

Srimati Vrndavanesvari Mataji
By Indira Dasi

Although I am also a disciple of His Holiness Tamal Krsna Goswami, I would like to say something about the glorious passing of Srimati Vrndavanesvari Mataji. I do not have the full details of her life as I have only known her since 1994, but I will say what I do know.

Vrndavanesvari was probably one of the most sincere devotees I know. She was always trying to use every second to develop love for Krsna. Her chanting was always very fervent, and she was always eager to associate and serve senior devotees. Since I joined in 1994, at the age of 16, she has been like a mother to me. She always said I was her baby.

Was the 16th
a Fast Day?

By Vipramukhya Swami

Dear Chakra,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I am very unfortunate that I could not be in Mayapur when His Holiness Tamal Krishna Goswami passed away. Right now I am at the Long Island temple near New York City. Here, we devotees are completely dependent upon Chakra for news.

It is sad, therefore, that we did not see the news that the GBC body requested devotees to fast for half day on March 16 until late afternoon of March 16.

In Memory of My Beloved Father
By Krsnadas

Dear Father,

Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to his dedicated devotees.

It's now 2:00 am, 16th of March as I write this article. The reason I am still awake is very simple: I am waiting for confirmation that the rumor of your passing is but just a small joke arranged by the Lord to test our love for you and increase our attraction to you.

But 14 hours have already passed since the rumor reached my ears. Why is it that no one has yet called to tell us that you are actually still here? Don't these devotees know that all over the world, there are thousands of people like me waiting anxiously for the good news?

A Few Words about Vrndavaneswari
By Bhaktimarga dasi

I would like to write a few words about Vrndavaneswari, who was the great friend of so many of us here in New Zealand. Words cannot really express how sorely she will be missed by all of us, especially of course her 13 year old son Raghunatha and her husband Kalasamvara. Is is almost unbearable that we won't have her association again in this lifetime. I'm sure many other devotees will wish to express their appreciation of this wonderful devotee also.

Memories of Tamal Krishna Goswami
By Siddhanta dasa

In memory of HH Tamal Krishna Goswami, we submit a few of his stories about his relationship with Srila Prabhupada.

Tamal Krishna Goswami: The devotees invited me to a darshan where I heard Prabhupada beautifully sing the Chintamani prayers. Afterwards he asked if anyone had any questions and I raised my hand. At that time America was at war with Vietnam, and at our age, the draft board was a problem. I was very concerned about whether or not I would be drafted, and so I asked Prabhupada to describe what the spiritual world was like. He looked at me and said, "In the spiritual world there are no draft boards."

Memories of Tamal Krishna Maharaja
By Brahma Das

I worked extensively under Tamal Krishna Maharaja from 1975 through 1979. We met when I was in San Francisco working with Swami Tripurari on his BBT book distribution party. At that time Tamal Krishna Goswami asked me to join his party as leader of one of the new Radha-Damodar Buses.

Upon returning from India Tamal Krishna Goswami had teamed up with his old friend Visnujana Maharaja and turned his festival bus program into a dynamic preaching party. Together their preaching was so powerful that they recruited enough devotees to fill up two new buses. Soon those devotees were selling more Back to Godheads than any other zone in North America.

Separation from Devotees

Dear Maharajas, Devotees, and Friends,

Please accept my humble obeisances from my fallen self. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to His Holiness Tamal Krishna Maharaja.

I am sitting here in the office of the Chicago temple, where I do secretarial work. And all of a sudden, after reading about His Holiness Tamal Krishna Maharaja's passing and seeing the photos on the internet, I am feeling a little of how Narottama das Thakur must have felt with all of his beloved devotees leaving for the spiritual world.

Where are they? I am feeling separation from Tamal Krishna Maharaja, George Harrison, Visnujana Maharaja, and other celebrated devotees. It makes my want to cry out, "Krishna, I feel as though you are taking all of the devotees back to you. I need the association of these devotees. Please!"

The Events of March 15
By Tusti Mohan Krsna das

Mayapur, March 15th, 2002

I am sorry that I have to give a sad report about HH Tamal Krishna Goswami's physical disappearance. Since I am sending always reports to conferences and websites, most of the news is good and devotees feel encouraged in Krsna Consciousness, but when I came to know today early in the morning about the car accident where His Holiness Tamal Krishna Goswami and her grace Vrndavanesvari dd passed away, I couldn't believe it. Just yesterday, I saw His Holiness in an excellent mood and enthusiastic about going back to quickly finish his PHD.

A Great General of Srila Prabhupada Passes Away
By Mulakaranam dasa

A strong disciple of Srila Prabhupada, HH Tamal Krishna Goswami Maharaja, has left this world. ISKCON Kuala Lumpur had evening prayers and offerings on 15-03-02 to mark the demise of a wonderful spiritual master.

About 80 to 100 devotees from the Kuala Lumpur, Klang, and Negri Sembilan regions attended this prayer. There were bhajans, a short discourse about His Holiness by the temple president, HG Uttama Caitanya dasa, prayers to Lord Nrsimha and then puspanjali. A book by His Holiness, Servant of the Servant, was displayed on the Vyasasana, and everyone was encouraged to read it.

Tamal Krishna Goswami
Passes Away

From Tusti Mohan Krsna das
at www.mayapur.info

I am very sad to report this terrible news to all of you. I just got a call from a few devotees that HH Tamal Krishna Goswami left his body due to a car accident on his way to the Calcutta Airport. He was unconscious, in a coma, and finally passed away in the hospital. We are trying to obtain details but communications are very bad.

The day before yesterday HH Tamal Krishna Maharaja was talking about his experiences with Srila Prabhupada and other devotees on the main stage in the festival inauguration program. Afterwards, he excused himself due to health problems, so we have to assume his body was a little weak and could not tolerate the shock of the accident.

Tamal Krishna Goswami Goes Back to Godhead
By BVV Narasimha Swami

This morning, 15th March 2002, Tamal Krishna Goswami left his body and returned to the spiritual world after being involved in a car accident.

He left with a group of devotees from Mayapur Dham at 4:00 am on his way to Calcutta Airport, from where he was to catch a flight to return to England. He was the front-seat passenger in a Tata Sumo vehicle in the vicinity of Shantipur. The vehicle hit the rear end of a truck and as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident, Maharaja went back to Godhead. All the devotees in Mayapur are now engaged in offering prayers and kirtana.

Tamal Krishna Goswami Samadhi in Mayapur

Dear Devotees,

Mayapur (15-3-02) 1:30 pm

This is to update you. HH Tamal Krsna Goswami's body will be arriving in Mayapur in the next few hours, maybe at 2:30 or 3:00 pm, from Ranaghat. As per his will HH will be buried in Mayapur (we got his last will from Dallas temple) and all the senior God brothers and disciples are taking care, as a sannyasi’s body should not be cremated, and he will have a samadhi in Mayapur and a puspa samadhi in an ashram in Govardhan- Vrndaban.

Tamal Krishna Goswami
Leaves Body

Tamal Krishna Goswami left his body as the result of an automobile accident on the road from Mayapur to Calcutta this morning March 15, 2002. No further details are available yet.

Tamal Krishna Goswami was initiated by Srila Prabhupada in 1968 and served for many years as a GBC member. He preached Krsna Consciousness and established temples in many places around the world.

He also served Srila Prabhupada as a personal servant and was with Srila Prabhupada during Srila Prabhupada’s last lila in this world. Tamal Krishna Goswami was also the author of several books including Servant of the Servant and TKG’s Diary. It was Tamal Krishna Goswami who came up with the idea of establishing Chakra in response to the need for an ISKCON-friendly website.

Srila Prabhupada: Performing a Miracle
By Muralidhar das
(a disciple of Srila Bhakti Rakshak Sridhar Maharaj)

Dear Devotees,

I was very surprised when I read Eka Buddhi Prabhu’s original letter about "Did Lord Nityananda Enter Srila Prabhupada’s Body?" and the responses it generated.

Eka Buddhi Prabhu said that in a lecture on Nityananda Prabhu’s appearance day a person giving the lecture said, "Nityananda Prabhu had entered Srila Prabhupada’s body" and empowered him to preach. The person giving the lecture made the point, "If it was not for Lord Nityananda entering his body, and thus empowering him, how could you explain Srila Prabhupada’s success when so many other disciples of Bhaktisiddhanta had failed?"

The person giving this lecture said he had heard it from a Swami who had heard it from Sridhar Maharaj.

There are a couple of things that I feel need to be said here.

GBC 2002 Meeting Summary
From Kalakantha das (ACBSP)

The following was read by a GBC representative to Sri Sri Radha Madhava this morning, March 12, 2002.

The 2002 GBC meetings began in Srila Prabhupada's service on March 1st in Mayapur. Chairman Ramai Swami arranged substantial help for the GBC body from the GBC Deputies, headed by Braja Bihari and Aniruddha Prabhus, so the Body could concentrate on broad issues for the development of ISKCON. These broad issues included:

1. Study of Guru/Disciple issues. Should a qualified devotee accept disciples in the physical presence of his spiritual master? What is the relationship between the disciple and his or her siksa and diksa gurus? What should be the standards for gurus and disciples in ISKCON?

Adventure Tours: Nigeria 2
By Kavicandra Swami

I previously wrote a little about my arrival in Nigeria. Lagos is a very large city and very few tourists venture there. We have two temples and many devotees. They live what most of us would consider very austere lives. The roads are very bad, and in all of Lagos there are only two traffic signal lights, both of which were broken on the day of their installation. The traffic situation must be experienced to believe it. The buses are unbelievably crowed and have as many dents as there are waves on the sea. No temple has running water, and electricity comes and goes.

Narayan Maharaj: Not at New Vrindavan
By Malati dasi (NA GBC )

It has been called to the attention of New Vrindavan Management and others that Narayan Maharaja plans to hold programs there on June 14, 15, 16. Please be advised that such advertising is misleading and false. New Vrindavan is not hosting or in any other way facilitating Narayan Maharaja and his followers at this time or in the forseeable future. New Vrindavan and its management will not promote or support this endeavor, nor will our facilities be available under any circumstances. While we wish these Vaishnavas well, New Vrindavan intends to remain a loyal ISKCON entity clearly faithful to Srila Prabhupada and his teachings.

GBC Report, March 9, 2002
From Tusti Mohan Krsna das

Mayapur dham is better and better every day, and the sensation that we feel here is amazing with so many devotees from all over the world giving us their association and sharing with us their realizations and service to Srila Prabhupada and Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu. It is great to see that every morning senior devotees from different parts of the world are giving lectures and leading kirtans as well having meetings with devotees. This brings life to Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir.

This morning was a little cool and nice with fog until almost 10:00 am, and today's lecture was given by HG Prithu prabhu for English speakers, and HH BVV Narashimha Swami gave class to Bengali devotees assisted by a translator.

Dina bandhu prabhu was leading a kirtan that was very ecstatic. HH Bhakti Vijana Goswami was taking Srila Prabhupada in procession during SP gurupuja.

More Reports from GBC Members
By Kalakantha dasa

Sunday, March 10, 2002 (Mayapur, India): Two additional GBC members gave their reports yesterday during the annual GBC meeting in Mayapur, India.

Ravindra Svarupa Prabhu, a member of the GBC Body since 1986, reported that in May 2001 he worked with Devi Deva Prabhu to secure ISKCON copyrights and membership marks around the world. In June he finished an article for the Journal of Vaishnava Studies on Radharani. He also worked with college professors in Detroit developing points on how leaders of an organization can assess themselves.

Jayapataka Maharaja, the most senior sannyasi in ISKCON and a member of the GBC, said that he heads the Congregational Ministry, whose goal is to build congregations both where temples do and do not exist. The Ministry aims to give high quality care and support to congregational devotees. To this end the Ministry has published a handbook on Bhakti Vrksa in English, Hungarian, Spanish, Russian, and Bengali.

They Are in Total Agreement with Me
By Eka Buddhi dasa

First I must say I am most amused by those stating they disagree with me, when for the most part they are in total agreement, as in Raghavendu prabhu’s last two paragraphs, where he relates the vision of the monkey holding on, which is a wonderful example of my point. And again in Dvarkadhis prabhu’s statement "His undivided, unflinching faith in his spiritual master" was his qualification. I would like to add these quotes from Srila Prabhupada—

Diary of a Traveling Preacher,
Volume 4, Chapter 10

By Indradyumna Swami

February 12 - March 7, 2002

After nearly two months spent resting and recuperating in Durban, South Africa, I realized the time was at hand for me to continue traveling and preaching. I have arranged to do a two-month preaching tour of America, and to that end I had made a reservation on a flight from Johannesburg to Atlanta, Georgia, on March 2.

Of the many things I had to concern myself with before leaving the country, I was most interested to pick up a small piece of jewelry I was having made for my Deities. Two days before my flight, I tried to telephone Cookie, the sister of my aspiring disciple, Suren Vallabjee. For many years the Vallabjee Family has owned a jewelry store in the Durban suburb of Tongat, and Cookie had been instrumental in ensuring the piece I ordered would be ready in time. After repeatedly getting a busy signal, I decided I would drive to the shop to see how the work was progressing. As I got into the car I told the driver to head north to Tongat, calculating that we would arrive at the shop about 11:00am.

Mayapur: Where Are They?
By Rasalila devi dasi

As suggested, I just checked the Mayapur info site out. I am so happy! Looking at the pictures on the website and seeing there are no lady devotees anywhere to be seen, it must mean that they are somewhere all together, glorifying each other for the wonderful selfless services they all perform in Prabhupada's movement. I wish I could be there. Or am I just really naive? :-)

Mayapur Festival Commitee Finalizes Preparations
By Janmastami (das) SDG
(Mayapur Education - IN)

Bhakti Purusottama Swami, the Festival Coordinator, just told me, "The primary function of the local Mayapur devotees during the festival is to make sure visiting devotees feel welcome and well cared for." My guess is that this festival will establish Mayapur as a center that really knows how to host devotees.

We have heard some reports that due to recent violence in Gujarat between Hindus and Muslims, some devotees from abroad fear Mayapur may not be safe. West Bengal, however, has not been at all affected by these troubles, and there is no evidence to suggest there will be trouble during the festival period.

If you are unsure whether you should risk traveling to Mayapur, I recently read these relevant, persuasive quotes and they may help you make up your mind:

Srila Prabhupada and Nityanandavesa
By Brahma Das

I appreciate the sincere efforts of Eka Buddhi dasa in his article on Chakra to inspire everyone to become dynamic and dedicated in service to Mahaprabhu. ("Did Lord Nityananda Enter the Body of Srila Prabhupada?")

However, in that article, he presented a superficial understanding of Sridhar Maharaja’s glorification of Srila Prabhupada as Shaktavesa Avatar and Nityanandavesa. This understanding he admits came from at best third-hand knowledge of Sridhar Maharaja’s actual words on the subject. Therefore I thought it might be helpful to post those words and elaborate on them in light of revelations from our acharyas.

Srila Prabhupada: Shaktyavesha Avatar
By Raghavendu das adhikari (ACBSP, '71)

I cannot agree with the viewpoint of Eka Buddhi Prabhu in his article "Did Lord Nityananda Enter the Body of Srila Prabhupada?" I have been told that Sridhar Maharaja said that the Grace of Lord Nityananda entered into Srila Prabhupada (without use of the word "body"). What I heard was that this meant that Srila Prabhupada is a Shakyavesha Avatar of Lord Nityananda. Upon further inspection we will find that the Grace of Lord Nityananda is essentially the inspiration to distribute Lord Chaitanya's Sankirtan Movement to the Jagais and Madhais of this degraded Age of Kali Yuga.

Pray for Padayatra
By Deenanath dasa

[from Free Forum]

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. All glories to Guru and Gauranga.

I would like to request all the Vaisnavas to include the devotees of Padayatra India in their prayers. Presently they are traveling through the villages of Gujarat (on their way to Dwaraka-dham) where the Hindu/Muslim conflicts are occuring. Telephone contact was made with them yesterday, and they are reported to be safe.

Obstructing the Legacy of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
by Mayesvara dasa for the Bhaktivedanta Archives

We All Benefited

We all owe a great debt to His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. His divinely inspired realizations gave us meaning and transformed undirected, mediocre individuals into extraordinary servants of Lord Krishna. Srila Prabhupada’s profound contribution to this world extends far beyond "Good Literature." His teachings are a theological landmark that we know will bring light to this dark place for the next 10,000 years.

In 1978 the Bhaktivedanta Archives was formed for the sole purpose of accurately preserving the 6000+ personal letters, 30,000+ photos, 10,000+ pages of manuscripts and transcriptions, and 2000+ hours of audio recordings of His Divine Grace.

Devotees Sing at George Harrison Memorial Concert
By Arjunanath dasa

On Sunday 24th February, Hare Krishna devotees joined musicians, fans, and Sir Paul McCartney in commemorating the life of George Harrison at a special concert at the Liverpool Empire.

The concert sold out within hours of its announcement and was held on what would have been George's 59th birthday. Amongst various big names from the music business, the gig included many contemporaries, tribute bands, and friends of George and the Beatles such as Pete Waterman, "Hari Georgeson," members of Cockney Rebel, Thin Lizzy, the Bootleg Beatles, and the Mighty Wah! The devotees were billed as members of the Hare Krishna Temple.

The Wrong Meaning for "Gauranga"
By Dhira-lalita dasa

I was reading the Daily Mail yesterday. There is a page for questions, where people write in and ask a question, and others write in with answers. One question yesterday was "On the M6 near Manchester, the word Gauranga has been daubed on a bridge. What is the origin and meaning of this word?"

Don't Speculate about Srila Prabhupada
By Dvarkadhis das

I want to express my disappointment after reading the article "Did Lord Nityananda Enter Srila Prabhupada’s Body?" During the search for the answer to a simple question —"How is it possible?"— we should simply stick to Prabhupada’s own words. Srila Prabhupada clearly stated that the undivided and unflinching faith in his spiritual master had been his only qualification. There was no other reason for his success.

Now, if we start to speculate and think of any other reason, especially as stupid as the described one, we’ll come to a very dangerous area.

Summary of GBC Meetings
By Tusti Mohan Krsna das

[from Free Forum]

I would like to share some information about the meetings in Mayapur of the GBC Members. I will give just a summary about the main activities. Also I am sending more pictures to be posted on the official website of Mayapur. <www.mayapur.info>.

Here's an overview of what has happened so far.

Since February 27th, seventeen deputy-GBC members have been going through forty proposals and prepared them for discussion and decisions by the GBC body.

Reply to Anonymous
By Eka Buddhi dasa

While Anonymous didn't seem to fully understand my point, I very much respected his reply. I don't believe, however, that if this realization that Nityananda had physically entered Srila Prabhupada's body were universally accepted, that, that implies that "bhakti and purity would not be accessible" to our humble selves. We (well maybe not me, but you) are equal to the Lord in quality, but not quantity. Yoga means "linking up," and the disciplic succession is that chain. Just like grabbing hold of the rope on the Rathyatra Cart, we can grab hold of that chain. This is the point of initiation, to be on the path toward bhakti and purity. The spiritual master instructs through his words and deeds and thus we learn purity.

Reports from GBC Members, 2002
By Kalakantha dasa

GBC members began the 2002 meetings in Mayapur, India, this year by summarizing their preaching activities around the world.

Bhaktimarga Maharaja reported that the Toronto Rathayatra was organized last year by ISKCON youths. The Rathayatra is one of the largest in North America. In Toronto, Maharaja turned over the temple management to Mother Subuddhi, Krsna das Prabhu, and Mother Prahara. In Montreal, Vishvambhara Prabhu, a senior devotee has taken over the temple management. A group of immigrant Russian devotees is organizing a farm community one hour from the city. In Ottawa, the temple is near the University of Ottawa where there is a regular dinner program. Maharaja visits all over the country, including St. John’s on the far east coast. Challenges include a lot of encroachment from Narayan Maharaja in Saranagati and some one-sided media coverage of the Turley lawsuit.

Responding to Eka Buddhi’s Article
By Anonymous Devotee

I would like to respond to Eka Buddhi dasa’s highly unusual and very mysterious article "Did Lord Nityananda Enter Srila Prabhupada’s Body?"

This is very mysterious because it seemed to come out of the blue as it were, but it seems almost inevitable twenty-five years after our beloved spiritual master left his body and wound up his glorious pastimes.

I don’t really know how to address this article. I have been associated with ISKCON for 22 years, and I never heard of this particular explanation. But it’s intriguing, to say the least.

Pilgrim's Diary –Lord Nityananda's Cooking Contest
By Vipramukhya Swami

12 Noon, Seattle Airport, USA, March 1, 2002.

For me and many others, the highlight for the month of February this year was Lord Nityananda's Appearance Day in Vancouver, which was on February 25, 2002. This day has a long history for the Vancouver temple, revolving around the world famous Lord Nityananda Cooking contest.

The story is that many years ago there used to be a cooking contest on Lord Nityananda's Appearance Day in Vancouver. It was very popular, but due to various problems it gradually fizzled out and was discontinued. In 1992 I became the regional secretary of Western Canada, and with the help of my Godbrother Yoginatha Prabhu we revived the cooking contest and addressed the problems that formerly led to its discontinuation.

Did Lord Nityananda Enter Srila Prabhupada’s Body?
by Eka Buddhi dasa

The following quote was announced after the lecture given for Lord Nityanada’s Appearance Day: "Srila Prabhupada was able to do so much in America because at one point during his journey on the Jaladutta, Lord Nityananda entered Prabhupada’s body and gave him the power to accomplish so much. Lord Nityananda stayed in his body until the time of Srila Prabhupada’s leaving, at which time Lord Nityananda departed from his [Prabhupada’s] body."

At first glance this is a sweet, inspiring story. However, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but something bothered me about it, so I approached the devotee who had quoted it and requested its pedigree.

Darshan of Deities in Temples
by Ravinder Sihra

Devotees living in temples are aware of arati times so it is no problem for them to have darshan of the temple Deities, but not all congregational members are aware of the darshan times, especially first-time visitors. Sometimes visitors to the temple are caught up in traffic or just delayed for some reason or other, and when they finally get to the temple they rush to the temple room to take darshan but find themselves staring in bewilderment at closed curtains.

Sometimes the visitors might have traveled from far places, even from other countries, and they find that they just missed arati, and they cannot wait that long for the next arati so they have to go away disappointed. Some come back another time another day, but some may not be able to come back again.

Gaura Purnima in Vrndavana
From Mahaman Das

[from Free forum]

Even though in Vrindavan, the Kartik Festival has become more prominent and much bigger than the Gaur Purnima Festival in the last few years, with over three thousand devotees participating, the Vrindavan management is making special arrangements to make this year's festival a memorable one.

As in recent years there will be no festival fees, but devotees should pay for accomodations and prasadam. Some of the highlights will be parikramas, free seminars, durlabh satsang, and the Boat Festival.

Welcome to Toronto Rathayatra
By Adikurma dasa

We are ready to host not only the 2008 Olympics but the 2001 Toronto Rathayatra too. July 14 and July 15, 2002, are the set dates for Rathayatra in the biggest city in Canada. The parade starts at Yonge St. and Bloor St. intersection at 11 am and ends at Queen's Quay. The festival then continues on to Centre Island.

Summer is a good time to visit Toronto. There are popular events like the Toronto Jazz festival, Street Festival, Molson Indy Race, etc., but we devotees add the transcendental color to the city with the Festival of Chariots. Events at the Centre Island include traditional dances, astrology and palmistry, hot air balloon rides, and of course, the drama put together by the youth group and directed by His Holiness Bhaktimarga Swami. Do not miss this opportunity. Attend the festival with your friends and families at Toronto the Good, as it is called.

Toronto E-Bhaktivrksa Program
by Adi-Kurma Dasa

E-mail, e-commerce— and now the congregation youths of Toronto temple have started E-Bhaktivrksa, an electonic version of the Bhaktivrksa program. The Bhaktivrksa program is run by Harimadhav and mother Bindumalini in Toronto to help the temple to multiply the congregation and make devotees. The youth groups liked the concept, and some among them started something like a conference (like that on COM/PAMHO) under the guidance of several devotees like Bhakta Sanjeev, Bh.Manohar, Bhaktin Rina, and Bhakta Siva.

Why the Clicker Debate?
by Mayesvara Dasa

I don't understand why there is so much effort being expended on the choice of clicker vs. bead bag. I am not even interested in reading these articles. Lord Caitanya clearly states in the second verse of His Siksastaki prayers that "...there are not even hard and fast rules for chanting these names..."

A Reminder about False Ego
by Nanda Dulal Das

By Lord Sri Krishna's mercy and through Srila Prabhupada, we have the opportunity to see that so many fallen souls are getting Krishna consciousness. Many of Srila Prabhupada's desciples are spreading the message tirelessly. Even second-generation devotees are vigorously preaching that too. In this regard, I have a humble request to all: do not be prey to illusion by prestige, adoration, and profit.

Thought of the Week: Lord Nityananda

Lord Nityananda is the eternal associate of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Rarely is the name Nimai (Caitanya Mahaprabhu) taken without that of Nitai (Lord Nityananda). Mahaprabhu cannot be approached or understood without the mercy of Nityananda Prabhu, who is the cardinal guru of all the universes and serves as an intermediary between Mahaprabhu and His devotees.

He is the Lord's active principle in both creation and lila. He is the second body of the Lord, manifesting as Balaram to Sri Krishna, Lakshman to Sri Ram and Nityananda Prabhu to Caitanya Mahaprabhu. All other forms and expansions of the Lord emanate from this second body. Nityananda Prabhu is thus the source of Sankarshan, all the Vishnus, and Ananta Sesa.

Lord Shiva's Song

This pure mantra is best for the soul
who seeks to attain life's ultimate goal.

For Disciples of Paramgati Swami
by Shyamasundari devi dasi

I am a disciple who lives in Germany, and I will edit and compile all the emails of Maharaj´s disciples and friends with the purpose of sending regular information and news about our gurudev. This mail will initially be in Spanish and English and if there are some Brazilian devotees interested in helping, we can also translate and write in Portuguese. Maharaj is now going to stay for a long time in Brazil, and it is an opportunity to gather together all our  godbrothers and sisters and keep ourselves connected via Internet. Devotees that may have pictures, classes, or conferences from Maharaj, please put all this material together because we will edit a tape ministry of our gurudev, and in this way we can all have his classes and lectures at home. You can send this material to the postal address that is at the end of this article.

Looking for Devotees in Beawar

ISKCON School of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Update

February 2002

We're developing our school website at www.radharani.com. Please visit.

Several of our high school students are chanting sixteen rounds and aspiring for initiation. Two of our graduates are presently in Italy in an exchange program with their college, Boston University. Another graduate got straight A's and 20 semester hours of credit in college last semester. Several more ISKCON School graduates got all A's last semester in various colleges. A recent graduate finds college English work easy. Her mother writes, "She is getting nothing but praise from her English teacher for ‘expository writing.’ I know that is all thanks to you. She is not learning anything new in that class. Also in our Spanish class we seem to be surrounded by kids who cannot understand the most simple, basic ideas like definite and indefinite articles, possessive pronouns etc... even in English!"
